Teach in Hastings

Hastings is an utterly fabulous place to live and teach.

Steeped in history, picturesque Hastings is flanked by the sea on one side and beautiful countryside on the other.

For entertainment, you can’t go past the uber-cool Electric Palace Cinema, the surprisingly good Jerwood Art Gallery, or the four-day, quite bizarre and utterly fabulous Jack in the Green Festival, which is held each April/May and has been described as ‘Shoreditch-on-Sea’. The annual Coastal Currents Arts Festival is another highlight on the calendar. And you’ve got to love a town which holds the world record for Pirate Day participation (an annual event in this gorgeously off-beat locale!)

History buffs will be spoilt for choice in Hastings, site of the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings. You can immerse yourself in this epic tale whilst admiring the views from historic Hastings Castle. Then there’s the fascinating Shipwreck Museum (or as we like to call it, the ‘best maritime museum ever’) and Smuggler’s Adventure, which give great insight into the past.

Hastings is widely considered one of the prettier parts of south England, with numerous parks, gardens and countryside to explore.

One of our client schools, The Ark school in Hastings is on the top of a hill, has a breathtaking view and excellent facilities within extensive grounds. The friendly and committed staff (many of whom have recently moved to the area) are really keen to welcome their buddies from the new intake of staff for September. Down in the town there are lots of restaurants, bars and coffee shops in the picturesque old-town, as well as art galleries, antique shops and a beautiful castle. It’s worth coming over for an interview if only to see the view from the school and have the award winning fish and chips by the sea!
