By the Teach In Team · Compliance & Professional Development
So you’ve decided to take the leap and teach in the UK. Congratulations, you’re in for one of the most rewarding professional experiences of your career. Before you pack your bags, there’s some important groundwork to lay.
At Teach In, we don’t just find you a placement we prepare you for it. That means making sure you arrive fully compliant, confident, and ready to walk into any classroom from day one. As part of your registration, we require all teachers to complete a set of online training modules before beginning work in UK schools.
This guide explains exactly what’s required, what’s recommended, and most importantly why each module exists and what it means for you as a professional.
Why Training Matters Before You Arrive
UK schools operate within one of the most rigorous regulatory frameworks in the world. Governing bodies including Ofsted and the Department for Education (DfE) require that all staff including supply and international teachers meet specific compliance and safeguarding standards before setting foot in a classroom.
Schools are inspected and held accountable on these standards. By completing your training ahead of arrival, you signal to schools that you’re a professional who understands and respects their obligations. Our Why Work With Us page gives a full picture of what Teach In provides, from visa support and compliance through to placement and beyond.
MANDATORY — COMPLETE BEFORE ARRIVAL
Part 1: Compliance Training
The following three modules are required for all teachers registered with Teach In. They are non-negotiable UK schools will not accept teachers who have not completed them. Each is online, self-paced, and takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Please share your completion certificates with your Teach In consultant.
1. Safeguarding
Safeguarding is the single most important area of compliance in UK education. This module covers your legal duties under the Children Act, how to identify signs of abuse or neglect, and the correct procedures to follow if you have a concern about a child. Every person who works in a UK school must complete this training it is not optional, and schools will ask for evidence of completion.

2. Cyber Security
Schools handle enormous amounts of sensitive personal data student records, medical details, parent contact information. Under the UK’s UK GDPR framework, all staff are responsible for protecting that data. This module teaches you how to recognise phishing attempts, use school systems securely, and avoid the most common online threats.

3. Prevent
The Prevent duty is a legal requirement under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. It requires all school staff to help prevent the radicalisation and extremism of young people. This training gives you the knowledge to recognise warning signs, understand your legal responsibilities, and know who to speak to if you have concerns about a student.
